EXPLORING ITALY: San Galgano Abbey

San Galgano Abbey

Built near Siena in 1185, the roof of this stunning abbey collapsed about 400 years later after a long period of abandonment and looting.

The abbey is at the end of a narrow road flanked by cypress and surrounded by fields full of sunflowers during the summer season. Absolutely magic.
